And again, the 'evidence' you keep suggesting exists does not represent what is actually the case. Even within this thread, there are several people telling you they have no issues with their device. I don't have any issues either.
I hate to use the well known argument we often see on these forums, but you will almost always hear from the people who have issues with their products.
You will almost never see threads or comments from people that don't really have a reason to exclaim to the world that their device is perfect. Thus, we see an inflation of negative threads as compared to positive threads, and ignorant people take this to mean there is a wide-spread and critical flaw with all of the devices. Also, the negative comment is more distinctive, and thus more memorable than the positive one- again adding to the illusion you seem to be buying into.
It is, indeed, sad to see someone get so emotionally attached to a consumer product that they cannot admit to themselves that the product may have some flaws.
You obviously need to relax. There is more to life than iPad.

I've been holding off on .Mac for quite some time. I'd love to use my iWeb as I've got quite a few picture pages I'd like to make but combining the .mac experience with the horrendous price tag I'm stuck uploading to yahoo for free for eternity. PLEASE - no more than $49 for a year, even that is too much IMO but I'll take it.

Primordial soup was my creator. I don't feel any compelling need to trumpet that fact though. Insecurity definitely seems to be one of the afflictions that the rabidly religious suffer from.

Hahaha! I didn't have time to edit that before you replied. I'll be clear -- that portion of what you quoted is in relation to what, say, the layperson says vs. two companies. It's okay for you and I to call other digital/electronic store-fronts, etc. as 'app store,' but another company can't. I may be off here, but for some reason I'm thinking I have to be super-duper specific and clear in replying on this thread versus relying on implied understanding. I don't think that's what he meant. I think he means instead of hard coding a program to use 8 (or however many cores), have the program dynamically use however many cores are in your computer. So if he wrote it on a 2 core machine, the program would use 2 cores. When he puts it on an 8 core computer, it'll automatically use all 8 w/o having to reprogram. The programmer should still test it and make corrections as necessary.

Anyone who thinks that the long-term viability of the IOS ecosystem as a significant home game player because of the lack of hard controls is just missing the picture.
I can't figure out why some people think you have to look at the screen of a touchscreen device to use it to manipulate things in a game world. Between rotation and movement of the device itself with properly placed buttons you can do a lot with it, none of it requiring looking at the touch screen.
I suspect most people could distinguish between the lower left corner of their device and the upper right corner, for instance, without looking at the screen.

Plus, what surprises me is that Microsoft did no TV advertising for the Zune at all. So many people out there have no idea it even exists.
Zune has no chance until they have an integration like ipod and itunes have. Maybe in Vista they will have a chance to get that but my feeling is too late for them.
Apple will not let down and I am pretty sure before spring we'll see updates across the ipod line and maybe finally the widescreen ipod.
I saw a zune ad on TV the other night. The same sweaty teenagers as in every other Zune ad. This time they were breaking through a fence or something. Then 'Welcome to the Social' appeared over it. I don't think they showed the actual Zune at all.

For the record: Spore isn't a 'life-simulator,' and it certainly doesn't simulate evolution. Despite whatever Wright initially intended or EA's marketing might have you believe, there's little to Spore that's any more 'evolutionary' than creating a Mii with Nintendo's Wii, modifying the paint and tires of a car in Forza 2, or making an exact replica of Kentucky Fried Chicken in The Sims. Spore is, in essence, a customization program, bundled with the software that lets you share your work. It's an interesting product and impressive in its own right, but not nearly as ambitious as touted — and most damningly, it doesn't meet the high standard set by Wright's previous efforts in terms of gameplay design because so much of Spore feels borrowed from other games.
Spore has five stages, each representing a different period in your creature's evolutionary history: Cell, the adventures of a microbe swimming around in primordial soup; Creature, the misadventures in eating and breeding on land for the first time; Tribe, Spore's most elementary level of society; Civilization, where, upon achieving planetary dominance your species now competes against itself for a unified culture; and finally Space, in which your creations launch themselves into the galaxy.

You might imagine there's some consistent gameplay conceit that binds the experience together. In fact, there isn't. Each stage confronts the player with new rules, new objectives, and new concerns. The gameplay, though, is old — really old, as in cribbed. The Cell stage is virtually identical to flOw or Feeding Frenzy; the Tribe stage is a rudimentary real-time strategy game à la Command & Conquer. Most mind-boggling is the Civilization stage, so similar to the Civilization series of games you'd think it was automatic grounds for a lawsuit (assuming you had the cojones to sue Electronic Arts). With this in mind, Spore looks less like a revolution than like a compilation of five relatively shallow games linked by the ability to customize your character's appearance in each. Which it is.
After the strangely hurried pace of the first four stages, the Space stage (see 1990's Star Control) brings Spore to a screeching halt, forcing the completion of endless fetch-quests while being harassed by near-constant nuisance attacks from unfriendly extraterrestrials — something that severely dampens the wonder of being able to pull back, Powers of Ten-style, from a lone citizen on your home planet to a view of the entire Milky Way galaxy. Moments like that give you glimpses of what Wright had in mind when playing Spore . . . and then you go back to delivering cargo from planet A to planet B.
Really, Spore is about its creator modes. That's not really a game, though; it's Mad Libs played with eyestalks and webbed feet. For many, this distinction is irrelevant: Fun is fun, and if you're the type who can be entertained for hours customizing every organism, structure, vehicle and planet in your galaxy, that's all that really matters, and Spore is a home run. If.
It's possible that for the very first time, Will Wright's reach has exceeded his grasp. But to his credit, it took as immense and complicated a topic as the origin and evolution of life to finally thwart him.
